Dinner Leftover

By Melissa Pighin

I’d like to be together,
But alas, that depends
On if, when, and whether
You’ve tied up your loose ends.
You told me to wait,
I’ve waited for a year.
But my dear, it’s too late
Our love’s disappeared!
It’s grown lukewarm
Like dinner leftover.
I doubt you will learn
So, I’m turning a cold shoulder.
Love is fleeting,
But my heart’s still beating.
